Signs you need termite treatment

Termites work out of sight, so most homeowners find them by accident. Call us if you see any of these.

  • Mud tubes

    Mud tubes

Pencil-width tunnels of soil running up the foundation, piers or crawl space walls. Subterranean termites build them to travel from the soil to the wood.

  • Swarmers or wings

    Swarmers or wings

Winged termites swarming indoors, usually on a warm spring day after rain, or piles of identical wings on windowsills. Swarmers inside mean a colony is close by.

  • Damaged or hollow wood

    Damaged or hollow wood

Wood that sounds hollow when tapped, crumbles easily or has tunnels running along the grain, often packed with soil.

  • Bubbling paint or sticking doors

    Bubbling paint or sticking doors

Paint that bubbles or blisters, doors and windows that suddenly stick, or floors that feel soft can all point to termites inside the wood.

What's included in our termite control service

Termite protection isn't a one-time spray. Here's what you get.

  • A full termite inspection

    A full termite inspection

We inspect the foundation, crawl space, garage, attic and interior where we can reach, looking for termites, damage and the moisture that attracts them.

    Liquid barrier treatment

A termiticide applied to the soil around and under the foundation. Termites that tunnel through it are killed, and it keeps protecting the house for years.

  • Termite baiting systems

    Termite baiting systems

    Annual inspections

Once your home is protected, we inspect it every year to catch new activity early, before it turns into damage.

  • Re-treatment bond

    Re-treatment bond

With our Ultimate plan's termite bond, if termites come back, we re-treat at no additional cost while the bond is active.

The Mack Vision 👀

Our termite-crushing team

Since 1983, Mack Pest Solutions has protected homes and businesses from termites.

How our termite treatment works

Most termite damage comes from subterranean termites, including Eastern subterranean and Formosan termites. They live in the soil, travel up to the house through mud tubes and eat wood from the inside out, so a home can have damage for years before anyone notices.

Every job starts with an inspection. From there, we recommend one of two proven approaches, or a combination of both:

  • Liquid barrier treatment. We apply a termiticide to the soil around and under the foundation. Termites that tunnel through the treated zone are killed, and it keeps protecting the house long after the visit.
  • Termite baiting system. We install bait stations in the ground around the house. Foraging termites feed on the bait and carry it back to the colony, eliminating it.

Which one fits depends on how the house is built, where the activity is and what you want long-term. Either way, we keep inspecting every year, because a protected home should stay protected.

  2. Step 2

    Treatment

We treat with a liquid barrier, a baiting system or both. Most liquid treatments are finished in a few hours, and you can usually stay home while we work.

  3. Step 3

    Annual inspection and monitoring

We come back every year to inspect the house and check any bait stations. With a termite bond, re-treatment is covered if termites return.

How to prepare for termite treatment

A homeowner moving a stack of firewood away from the foundation of a house
Your technician will tell you exactly what your home needs. These steps make most treatments go smoother.
  1. Clear the foundation

Move firewood, storage bins and anything stacked against the outside of the house.

  2. Open up access

Make the crawl space entrance, attic hatch and garage walls easy to reach.

  3. Pull things off the walls

Move stored items a couple of feet away from the walls in the garage and any basement.

  4. Expect some drilling

Liquid treatments can mean drilling small holes through a slab, porch or patio so the soil underneath gets treated. The holes are patched afterward.

  5. Keep kids and pets back

Keep them away from treated soil until your technician says it's fine.

Termite control questions

How can I tell if I have termites?

Look for mud tubes on the foundation or crawl space walls, swarms of winged insects or piles of discarded wings, and wood that sounds hollow or crumbles. Bubbling paint and doors that suddenly stick can also be signs. A termite inspection is the only way to know for sure.

What's the difference between liquid termite treatment and bait stations?

A liquid treatment creates a treated zone in the soil around and under the foundation, so termites trying to reach the house are killed. Bait stations sit in the ground around the house; termites feed on the bait and carry it back, eliminating the colony. A liquid barrier protects the house as soon as it's applied, while baits take longer but go after the colony itself. We'll recommend what fits your home.

How long does termite treatment take?

Most liquid treatments are finished in a few hours, depending on the size of the home and how it's built. In most cases you can stay home while we work.

How long does termite treatment last?

A liquid barrier keeps protecting the house for years, and a baiting system keeps working as long as the stations are monitored. Landscaping, additions and other changes disturb treated soil over time, so we recommend an inspection every year either way.

What is a termite bond?

A termite bond is ongoing protection: we inspect the home every year, and if termites come back, we re-treat at no additional cost while the bond is active. Our Ultimate plan includes termite protection with a re-treatment bond, and our Enhanced and Premium plans include an annual visual termite inspection.

Do you provide CL-100 reports for home sales?

Yes. We inspect and provide CL-100 wood-infestation reports for home sales. Call us with your closing date and we'll get the inspection scheduled.

Are termite treatments safe for my family and pets?

Yes, when applied correctly. We use EPA-registered termiticides applied by licensed technicians according to the label, and most of the treatment goes into the soil around and under the foundation. Your technician will tell you if there's anything to keep kids or pets away from.

When do termites swarm?

Subterranean termites usually swarm in spring, often on a warm day after rain. Swarms are over quickly, but winged termites indoors usually mean a colony is close by. Call us for an inspection rather than just spraying them.
